About Colby
Colby Medlen is a third-generation leader at Cast Products, serving as Chief Operating Officer. Growing up in the family business, Colby started coming to work with his father before the age of 10 doing jobs in the tool crib and assembly. As he got older, Colby continued working at Cast Products during summers, taking on special projects throughout the facility, and gaining exposure to different areas of the business. At 16, he began working second shift in the machine shop and traveling with the sales team. Those years spent working alongside team members on the plant floor gave him a practical understanding of manufacturing and helped shape his leadership style and appreciation for the people who make the company successful.
After high school, Colby attended the University of Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the Culverhouse College of Business. While at Alabama, he was also a member of the Culverhouse C&BA Business Honors Program. His education in accounting and business, combined with a lifetime of experience around manufacturing, provided a strong foundation for eventually taking on broader leadership responsibilities at Cast Products.
Today, Colby is focused on strengthening Cast Products as a modern American manufacturer while positioning the company for the next generation. He is particularly passionate about manufacturing operations, continuous improvement, engineering, automation, and investing in equipment and technology that expand the company’s capabilities. He believes long-term success requires a willingness to continually improve while maintaining the quality, service, and customer relationships that have allowed Cast Products to succeed for generations.
As a member of the third generation of family leadership, Colby takes seriously the responsibility of carrying forward what previous generations built while continuing to evolve the company for the future. He is proud of Cast Products’ Alabama roots, its employees, and its role in American manufacturing, and he believes the company’s future depends on creating opportunities for its people, serving its customers well, and continuing to invest in the communities that have supported the business.
Outside of Cast Products, Colby is an active member of Athens First Methodist Church and enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and son. A University of Alabama graduate, he is also a fan of the Crimson Tide.
