FAQs
What makes Cast Products different from other foundries?
Cast Products combines engineering, tooling, foundry operations, machining, finishing, and quality functions within a single organization. Customers benefit from one point of contact, faster communication, greater accountability, and a streamlined path from concept to production.
General Capabilities
What types of aluminum castings does Cast Products manufacture?
We are not industry or product specific. We manufacture custom aluminum sand castings for OEM customers across a variety of industries. including transportation, marine, emergency vehicles, utility infrastructure, industrial equipment, and commercial applications.
Do you manufacture custom castings or standard products?
The majority of our business consists of custom aluminum castings designed to customer specifications. We also offer proprietary product lines serving the emergency vehicle, commercial transportation, and marine industries.
Engineering & Product Development
Can you help with part design and engineering?
Yes. Our engineering team regularly assists customers with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), casting optimization, tooling design, and production launch support.
What information is required for a quote?
We can quote from 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, sample castings, prototypes, or existing production components. Our team can also assist customers who are still developing their designs.
Do you offer prototyping services?
Yes. We offer plastic prototypes through additive manufacturing to support early-stage design validation and product development. Depending on the requirements of the project, we can also provide expedited tooling solutions to produce first-article aluminum castings for evaluation and testing. Our team will work with you to determine the most effective approach based on project timelines, budget, and performance requirements.
Can you help reduce part cost?
Absolutely. Our engineering team routinely identifies opportunities to improve manufacturability, simplify machining, reduce material usage, and lower total production costs.
Tooling & Production
Do you build tooling in-house?
Yes. Our in-house tooling and pattern shop designs and manufactures patterns, core boxes, and CNC/drilling fixtures if needed, allowing for faster development cycles and improved quality control.
Can you transfer tooling from another foundry?
Yes. We regularly evaluate and transfer existing tooling from other suppliers while minimizing disruption to production schedules.
What production volumes can you support?
Our operations support both low-volume, high-mix programs and high-volume production requirements. Annual capacity exceeds 1.3 million molds per year.
How quickly can new tooling be developed?
Lead times vary depending on part complexity and tooling requirements. Because engineering, tooling, and manufacturing are integrated within a single facility, we are often able to accelerate development timelines compared to outsourced tooling programs.
Quality
What quality systems do you have in place?
Our quality systems include process controls, documented inspection plans, traceability, corrective action procedures, and customer-specific quality requirements designed to support consistent production performance.
Do you support PPAP requirements?
Yes. We support dimensional layouts, sample submissions, production validation activities, and PPAP-ready documentation for customers who require formal approval processes.
How do you ensure casting quality?
Quality begins with engineering and tooling design and continues through foundry process controls, sand system monitoring, thermal analysis, machining verification, and final inspection activities.
Can you provide material certifications and inspection reports?
Yes. We routinely provide certifications, inspection documentation, and customer-specific quality records as required.
Machining & Finishing
Do you machine castings in-house?
Yes. Our CNC machining operations are fully integrated with our foundry and engineering teams, allowing us to maintain greater control over quality, lead times, and production performance.
What finishing services do you offer?
We provide shot blasting, vibratory finishing, polishing, powder coating, and other customer-specific finishing solutions based on application requirements.
Can you meet cosmetic appearance requirements?
Yes. We support a wide range of surface finish requirements, from functional industrial components to highly cosmetic customer-facing products.
